Can a door supervisor legally search me? Yes, but there are certain restrictions. Door supervisors must be of the same sex and cannot carry out a search without gaining the person’s permission.
What is the actual role of a door supervisor? A door supervisor is there to control the occupancy numbers and ensure the safety of club patrons. Therefore they may at times turn people away either due to the numbers of clubbers already in or as the person requesting entry is a known troublemaker or has consumed too much alcohol or other substances.
What happens if I’m caught with drugs? If you are caught with drugs the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) will be called and you could be charged with possession or intent to supply drugs.
Where can I get medical help? Contact a supervisor – they have responsibility for instigating medical help or enabling you to receive such. If you can’t find a door supervisor ask a member of staff for help.
What can I do to stop me dehydrating? Always drink plenty of water and the odd sugary drink to stop your body overheating. Eat salty snacks to help your body retain fluid. If you begin to feel dizzy or sick stop dancing go to the rest area and sip water.
Where can I get free drinking water? Each club must provide free drinking water at a supervised location clearly marked within the venue. If you are unable to find this location ask at the bar, ask a door supervisor and inform us of this failure.
My friends had a bad trip – what do I do? Stay with them and reassure them that they will be all right. Send someone to get help. If they don’t calm down – get help yourself.
Someone’s started a fight with my mate – what do I do? Contact the door supervisor and ask for help immediately. This will enable resolution of the matter or eviction from the premises.
How often are premises checked regarding safety standards? All premises are checked on a regular basis. These checks are unannounced and undertaken at irregular intervals. Additional checks are carried out in clubs who have received complaints or are undertaking a particularly large / highly promoted dance event.
What actions can and are taken if clubs fail to adhere to their license/conditions? If clubs fail to adhere to a specific license condition(s) a report on such non-compliance will be prepared and presented to Council.
I felt the premises were overcrowded/noise – how do I inform Coleraine Borough Council? Use the contact form on the 'Have your say' page and log your concerns therein. Each complaint will be investigated by an enforcement officer and if necessary, appropriate action taken.
Do any clubs hold under 18 nights? Not on a regular basis, however you can find out when these take place by checking out our calendar of events.
